Model refinement 3 Week 11

Not much changes to the surface of the model, but design changes had been made on the intake as well as the big cut out graphic on each sides of the vehicle had been slightly changed into a more leaf shaped cut. It just seem to flow with the overall design better. Also the head light section had also been cut out

Model refinement 2 Week 10

Details or graphics had been added on to the clay model. surfaces had been cleaned up more so it more smoother and i can identify where changes needed to be made. The side graphic and intakes near the wheel covers had been clayed in.

Model refinement 1 Week 9

Starting to refine the shape of the vehicle once i had the general size and dimensions right by using the templates i made earlier on. The clay vehicle will start to take shape, more detail are needed to be clayed in. The glass house feature had been slightly change rather then just round its not more defined with crisp edges.

Clay roughed in to templates Week 8

Templates are made for the clay model based on the Alias drawings. The template is roughly lay on top of the model to give a indication of how much clay are needed to be applied and just getting the overall shape and dimension right before shaping and adding details.

Armature covered in clay Week 7

This week we have to cover our armature with layers of clay/ Before applying clay is important to cover all MDF areas with double sided tapes otherwise the clay will not stick to the MDF well. The other thing is that you need to use the Hot air gun to lightly run across the surface of foam to make it harder and easier to work with.

Foam armature and base board Week 6

This week is all about making the armature which clay will be built around it. The armature are made out of parts of white foam, which i had sanded and cut up into shape in order to get a general idea of what the solar car design looks like. The baseboard are drawn using permanent markers then shallacked over the top to protect the line from fading. However i realized that Permanent marker does not work well is shallack, which it seem to fade out the ink of the marker so better use pencil next time!!
